Hello All,

I'm 30-something today, and precisely what my wife had been planning to get me was a complete and utter mystery. Anyway it turns out that she had seen me reading the electric heli thread in here a couple of weeks ago, and decided to get me one of these:

http://www.heliguy.com/Electric-RC-Helicopters/Hon...

It took me about 15 seconds to break it this morning when I actually flicked the "idle up" switch off, prompting the heli to go instantly to wide open throttle, but fortunately the damage was small and fixed with some superglue wink

Since then I've been googling and trying to learn how to fly it properly. I'm using the stabilisers, and basically flying it on the ground - getting used to the way the heli acts according to the inputs, and making sure that it is properly trimmed and set up. Good fun so far, although I realise that a crash is inevitable at some point...

Anyone got any tips or experience of these things?

Now, where's that thread about buying a 993 RS? I need to make sure she sees me reading it in time for Christmas!

Happy Birthday!

I keep buying these things 'for my children' but have decided they're not quite old enough to play with use them yet.

I think there are some good simulators around but to be honest they're for girls.

Just have a few drinks and fly it around. You can always replace the parts you break.

thumbup I took the precaution of ordering a load of stuff today. Good job as I wasted a set of blades by hitting the fireplace earlier. Fortunately the wife had the presence of mind to order a set of carbon blades for it when she ordered it!

I have a simulator if you want me to post it to you???

I learnt on it, and have only smashed a fly bar, a window and a plasma screen so far.

Money well spent i think.

Given up on helis, so you are welcome if you would like it

Emsman - that's extremely kind, thank you. If you don't want it then please do send it to me. I'll PM you.

"Only a plasma screen" yikes

I think I've joined you in the "finished with helis" camp Emsman. Tried to fly it this morning but the bloody thing is a mystery to me. Broken, and now back in the box and shortly to go in the loft frown
