What does anyone make of these models? I haven't bought a car for the last 10 years but I was talking to a mate about them the other day and we both really fancied getting a new car. I still have my race schumacher fireblade 2000 but I couldn't bare to break the thing. I broke it a few years ago and bought the last fireblade usa chassis to fix it. The range and run time also want too impressive as iirc the races are only about 5 mins.
The long and the short is we both decided that a 1/8th nitro buggy would be pretty good fun. The local model shop had a xtm xtr2 and a cen matrix in. Out of the two I think the matrix appears the better car, has better radio gear and more hop up options. I would like another schumacher or really like the look of the koyosho models. I tend to steer towards the cen as I have had koyosho's in the past and found it a pain to constantly wait months for parts to get off a boat from japan.
The Cen looks like a good package and a quick bit of googling shows it got to 4th in the worlds last year so I figure it has to be pretty compenent. It's just neither is a name I have ever heard of before but I would like the support the model shop offers by stocking allot of spares. I just don't want to buy a duffer on a whim. So any good or should I plump for a bigger name like the koyosho? or is the Cen a winner?

The world of 1/8th scale buggies is rather large and pretty fast moving. Its a nice buggy but your probably better off looking at the more mainstream manufacturers like Hobao, HPI and Hot Bodies aswell as Hong Nor. But it really depends on spares back up from your local model shop as you will break it at some point.
If all you are doing is bashing then you cant go wrong but if you take the step up to racing you may want to consider something else. If your local model shop has a good supply of spares then you cant go wrong.

Thanks, I had a look at apex models for some ideas. I used to use them when I was racing the schumacher. I checked the local club and they are racing nitro now too. Back when I was last into RC there wasn't a nitro club for 30 miles.

The HPI trophy looks like a good car and seems well supported in terms of parts from apex, I don't think the local shop deal in them so it would have to be mail order support.

The Cen is also a .26 so I guess if I got that I wouldn't be able to ever expand into racing if I felt the need to try that again. The thing is I probably will mostly be bashing but I don't ever like limiting my options.

What do you think the better car is out of the HPI trophy and the cen matrix? The Hpi is £30 cheaper, but the Cen's radio looks allot better.

If you were to do just club events most clubs are not too strict on the rules, so a .26 engine is likely to be overlooked. A good .21 engine will outclass an average .28 in most events anyway.
The HPI Trophy is the old Hot Bobies Lightning buggy so is already well developed with plenty of option parts from the Lightning pro ready to fit. Admittedly the HPI radio isnt the best but will do for bashing.

If your local shop stocks the CEN parts well then you may aswell go for that.
