Which RC car for a model of my kitcar?

Electric or nitro?
You could use an old Tamiya Clodbuster chassis as it uses a live type of axle and will fit in nicely. There was also a Tamiya Hog Heaven(?) with a 3 speed but its very expensive and a collectors item now. If you cant find one of them HPI do a Wheely King which also uses a similar type of axle. You will then need to build some type of styrofoam body around it.
The other option is the nitro monster trucks but none of them have the same sort of axle arrangment.

I would say a Tamiya CC01 chassis would look the most scale. You would probably have to custom create your own shell though.
Dont touch the wheely King, its a plastic toy. I know some people convert them to crawlers, but you will appreciate it soo much more if you buy a proper crawler to start with.
The other top crawler is the Axial one, but I think the Tamiya is built to look more like a real world truck.

Have been over onto the Scale 4x4 forum and the CC-01 keeps being mentioned but I'm having trouble finding where to buy it.
I'm now beginning to think it is a generic term for the chassis which I would find in something like the Pajero kit.
If so then is the Pajero kit the best one to go for as whilst I don't need the body some of the bits like headlights will be harder for me to produce myself.
I'm looking for electric and a crawler rather than speed.

Yeah the CC-01 is a Tamiya kit and will come with a shell as I dont think they do the chassis alone. However you shouldn't have a problem selling the shell on its own.
Here is the basic kit for £129 http://www.modelsport.co.uk/?CallFunction=ShowSpec...
For upgrades and conversions you are best reading through the 4x4 RC forums

You could ask someone like Kieth at Kamtec to make a bodyshell for you. http://www.kamtec.co.uk/vacum.php
Not sur eif he would let you make the mould, but if not he may do the project as he could sell it on to crawler/truggy drivers.
