Morning All,

Way back when (1980's) I used to race a Schumacher Cat but when I found out about girls it went away in the garage and has just been moved house to house in a big box for nearly 20 years.
We had a big clear out at the weekend and now that I have kids I feel justified in bringing the old CAT back to life. I got her running of a fashion last night, needed a new layshaft which I have ordered.
Question is, when I am lookign to order parts people are asking me which model CAT it is but I have no idea what it is. I always just used to be a CAT. How can I tell?
I am looking for a new speed control and motor too so any suggestions as to what is the current hot set up are most welcome.

I'll ignore my Mrs calling me sad and take some pics tonight - she is in bits so will have to make it look something like first!

Cheers

20 years makes in 1988 at the latest. If you were reasonably into your racing up to then and provided it's 4WD, I'll put a fiver on it being a CAT XLS.

Parts VERY hard to get. PM me for info if you wish.

I reckon I got it '87/88 I just don't remember here being any letters after its name.

It's 4wd, any distinguishing features?

What's the wheelbase. Original CAT was a shorter wheelbase, then the XLS was introduced.

I have loads of bits here somewhere if you get in need. Also original unused tyres!

Does the chassis have cut outs to take saddle packs? If yes then it's probably an XLS based on the age.
Most parts from the original CAT, xls and Pro Cat should fit though, so you really need to get someone with an XLS to give you some measurements to compare against yours (pro cat and later boss cat were fat compared to the original)!.

Personally I wouldn't go above a 19 turn brushed, 10.5 brushless in it. Especially if you have the original diffs/layshaft. The MMS parts may handle more but I wouldn't risk it!

What are you looking to do with the car, racing or bashing?

This is the original shortwhhel based CAT.

Designed for 6 cell stick pack

Brilliant car, unfortunately was launched before we had EPA on transmitters so the slightest steering had it spinning in circles or flipping.
