I know Red Firecracker restores Dinky die cast toys, are there any other Dinky collectors on here?

I spent my youth restoring cars and lorries I bought with my pocket money, and my parents have a display cabinet full of them still. Since I got into real cars at 16 I have not given them a second thought.

However, I went to a steam fair yesterday and a stand was selling Dink toys and it got me reminiscing, and I still have quite a collection at my parents house that need restoring.

Are there any forums or websites I should be looking at for spares and tips?

I quite fancy getting them finished, but it is getting on for 18 years since I have done any restorations, and I am sure things have moved on accordingly.

Any advice or pictures of your restorations would be great.

Cheers Paul

Ah, the faint jangling of my username!

Spare parts wise, your choices are slightly limited. The 3 companies I use are;

Model Car Parts

[Goldmember]They're from Holland![/Goldmember]

Steve Flowers Model Supplies

and finally

PCT Castings

I tend to use Model Car Parts as even though they are in Holland, their turnaround is better than the other 2, however, the Euro is now starting to make that slightly unattractive. One tip, especially if using Steve Flowers, is to build up a big order as his delivery times are measured in weeks. There are also other sellers on eBay.

One I use regularly for tyres and any decals I'm not printing myself is;

Tonys Transfers & Tyres

A quite active Forum I used to be part of is;

Die Cast Drive-In

Some very helpful people on their but I have to say there are some who can be a touch anal about things, especially if you utter the word 'restoration' around any of their personal favourite models.

Drop me an email if you need any help with anything. Just remember one thing, doesn't matter how battered a model looks in its original paint, they all look the same after a bath in caustic soda!

And finally, to be a touch self indulgent, here's some of mine;
