After a mere 7-8 years, my next-door neighbour has finally got his Sealion 30cc 4 cylinder model engine to run reliably(ish). It is currently running on glow fuel/plugs with an OS carb, but he hopes to be able to run it on petrol Real Soon Now(tm). It seems the breakthrough was to use a thin copper head gasket.

It doesn't sound bad either! Could sound even more interesting when it runs proper fuel biggrin

After a similar amount of time, my father finally got his Bentley BR-2 9 cylinder rotary engine finished and running a month or so back. No access to youtube here at work, but plenty of vids of other BR-2 models on there.

And because this thread would be worthless without pictures:-

Suggestions for future (less complicated) projects are now being taken...

single row rotary - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bentley_BR2

Fearsome indeed; piston seizure while running it the other day, last spare now fitted.
He's building a whole new set of cylinders, liners, pistons and rings, mainly because the compression is quite low, but also because it's still a bit erratic as to whether or not it'll fire on all 9.

I talked to him the other day; more like 14 years in the making, on and off, but mainly off; lots of other stuff in between sessions on the Bentley.

Your father is a talented, and tenacious, chap. I'm sure he'll resolve it all.
