I am looking for some solvent to join a polycarbonate picture frame that has snapped.

It's clear polycarbonate.

Does anyone know the best way to join this type of material. Many moons ago at school I remember a solvent that literally melted the 2 joined edges together, but can't find anything suitable

Thought the scale modellers may know what to use?

Might be worth trying PVA, (woodworking), glue. It is widely used by model builders to fix windscreens, cockpit covers etc, It dries clear and any stray bits can be removed with a damp cloth before it hardens. It won't provide "instant hold" but may do the job ast it hardens. Very cheap and non-solvent so nowt to lose.
