Can one buy a Nitro-powered truck or stadium racer that needs building? Quite tempted with a Traxxas but isn't part of the fun putting it together?

I think the HPI SS models are kits.

Presume my old Acoms transmitter (2 channel) will work ok so I don't need to buy another one?

Cant see why your old Acoms wouldnt work.If you ring them before purchase I'm sure they would advise either way.Seemed helpful when I rang them.

How was the build scorcher ?? and how is the truck ?? I built my Savage .21 about 5 years ago and keep thinking about retiring her and getting the newer model. The .21 has served me more than well, usual parts broke, or got broken off which was more the case. People say they are fiddly to work as its all fitted in as a tight little package. Ive never been bothered myself.

Build was easy ( could of done with a third hand a couple of times ) helped by an excellent build manual.I managed to put a couple of bits on wrong but that was my fault for not looking at manual quite close enough (And the last time I assembled a RC car was about 20 years ago )I'll confess that it took me about 3 months to do it but I was in no hurry as the sooner I got it built the sooner I'd have to go out and stand in the cold.I figured that half the fun is assembling it in the first place and I think most of the bits that are prone to breaking are reasonably accessable without too much dismantling.

The building is a massive part of it IMO as when you break it you know how to take it apart !! Just been to HPI's website and I rather fancy me one of those new Savage XL's. A K5.9 (.36ci) engine pushing out 3.7hp should be fairly rapid !! Doubt it will be cheap though, £450 I expect

Building the kit is one of the best parts of the hobby, unfortunately most want them RTR which in my eyes is a waste of time as they have no idea how to replace parts when then inevitably break
