Shell Ferrari models

Shell has their latest offer out..

Given TV shows like Anitques Roadshow, where toys are only worth something if no kid has ever been let loose near even the packaging, am I the only one who gets hold of these models and then simply stores them in the attic?

Mobil were doing something years ago with small Meccano kits so I got the full set and the advertising leaflet and put the lot in the loft as my pension. I did also get a couple of spares to build up of course

Nope, I've got a Corgi Model of a RollsRoyce Silver Cloud still boxed, a BP fuel lorry in it's box, and even a Rupert Bear 1974 annual still in it's wrapping.

I keep all the boxes for my models in my loft, but they'd look pretty silly displayed in their boxes, so I take them out.

I can't really see a value difference between a model in a box, and a model in a box still sealed in cellophane to be honest.

I've nearly all the Mobil ones from the eighties.

You might not see it, but collectors do. Take them out of the box and you do impact the value. However, for me there is little point in having some of these things if you're not going to show them. In these cases they have to be in dust proof cabinets. I don't have any such cabinets at the moment and thus mine are all still in boxes!

I recently saw a collection of Shell promo models being sold on eBay, thw winning bid equated to less than £2 per model.

So forget ever becoming rich off model cars, is all hype!

Saw them in the flesh yesterday, and pretty crap TBH if you know your models.

I got the F1 model today. It's now residing in the bin, the quality of it is rubbish, I was at least expecting a metal body, but it was free i guess. Its the first time i've put anything but standard supermarket fuel in my scoob so at east I've got some potent fuel to play with.

If the later scoobs are like the earlier ones they love the higher octane stuff.

It will take the ECU sometime to work out that it's got better fuel though, an alternative is to take it to a dealer / indie and get the ECU fuel map reset.

Then cane it for a few miles.

Disconnect the battery for an hour, this resets the ecu, then give it beans, you'll soon notice the difference! I don't run anything but Vpower in mine. You really notice the difference when you go back to ordinary unleaded.

I've got a cople of the shell ferraris. They do seem pretty cheap, but with the cost of filling at the moment any freebie is welcome!
The value of some models can go up, and if filling the car gives me the set of ferraris i'd hang onto them anyway, but I wouldn't hold your breath for getting any money for these.

i picked up a shell /ferrari book at a bootsale for a couple of quid the other day. Its called ferrari in racing, 1950-2001, nice thick paperback book with about 300 pages and a brief summary of every season. marked on the back 'for promotional use only'.

i was quite suprised that they only go on ebay for a couple of quid, as it seems quite a nice book.
so perhaps the future value of some crappy ferrari models even if they are in a box won't be that much.

any idea how long the offer is on for? i got 2 of the models, and was hoping to get the full set, but apparently i got the last one of them today at my local shell..

they remain in the packaging, even though i doubt they will be worth anything.. on the plus side the v power isn't too bad here at 111.9 per liter, and i use about 35 liters a week.. the alfa seems to like it too..

I saw these in my local shell garage the other day and they really are crap models. Not even worth £2 IMHO. I wouldn't buy these even for my kids to play with, so forget about them being worth anything.

I agree the models are crap,all plastic,it would take your kids 5 minutes to wreck them
