Hi,

I am looking into buying an HPI Savage in the not too distant future.

I know quite a few people on here have them, so was wondering a few things..

1. Is it easy to drive compared to an electric car?

2. Is it possible to get a different exhaust that makes it quieter?

3. Is the bigger engine really worth it for the extra money?

4. What model would you recomend?

5. Are there any extras really worth buying?

Thanks in advance, and sorry for asking soo many questions

George

I'm not an expert on these, mines just for having a blast with but my 2p worth:

1. Not had an electric car, sorry!
2. You can get a muffler off of eBay that quietens it down a bit, although I took it off as it didn't sound right
3. I got the bigger engine as it came in the SS kit, which you have to build.
4. I would recommend the kit version, gives you a lot more knowledge of the car for when/if you break something
5. If you buy the kit version you get the uprated bits included, though a wheelie bar comes in handy! And some headlights look good/help at night! To be honest it's great out the box, but you will end up adding bits on for the sake of it if your anything like me.

Hope that helps.

1. it's different, very different, but not particularly hard.
2. why would you want to, that shrill exhaust note becomes quite addictive after a while biggrin
3-5: what he said ^^^^

Kit form is the way to do it, after you get over the initial frustration on wanting to "pay and play" it's really interesting, doesn't take all that long, and gives you all the info you'll need down the line when you inevitably get overconfident and break it like I do.
The big engines are bloody good fun, but don't half make them get their noses in the air.

Don't know about the cheapest, but never had any problems with www.modelsport.co.uk

I actually went to a shop to buy mine though, they were initially about £80 more, but got them down on price and got batteries and other bits and pieces thrown in. Also meant that after I'd built it could go back in and get them to have a quick look over it, good for when something goes wrong as they are good at helping out, don't get that service on line.
