Brought my 5yr a Scalextric set (Top Gear Set from M&S) and to my surprise he is quite good.

Now, one of the cars is a 996GT3RS which is quite tricky on the bends. Is there anyway of increasing grip? It has magnatraction but this still doesnt help. Everytime I use the car he woops me with the GT40 or Gallardo.

God this brings back memories! I used to put plasticine 'inside' the car in my old gold Porsche 911 worked a treat back then!

Let me know how you get on!

Get some 'slot car wheels' red foam rather than rubber - and they use goop on the tyres - sticky gel liquid, you wont fall off then

use another magnet for the magnetisation - say a small cobalt one..

make the slot guide (hold the brushes) abit longer

put some lead on the flanks of the chassis to weigh it down and balance it side/side

this should help - all the old slot car tricks smile

No, its plenty fast on the straights but unless I can drift it round the bends (and it doesnt work everytime I try) it just flies off even at low speeds.

It sounds sad but from the small number of cars he has (GT40, 911 & Gallardo) they all handle differently just like the real thing. Excellent really.

Sneakily fit a hidden second variable resistor in line with your lad's controller. Then you can vary the available power to his car until it's more even. biggrin

Alternatively, use a separate PSU for your lane with double the voltage...

It's simple, he's 5.

Only let him run the 996GT3RS, that way you can beat him with the better cars wink
