i was into scale models (mainly aircraft) loads when i was a kid but always wanted an R/C kit. now at the tender age of 28, i have decided to take te plunge. i like the look of the retro Tamiya re-releases and quite fancy the Subaru Brat as my local Antics shop is doing it for a package price of £153. what do you guys think? are there any other models i should consider?

Depends what you want to use it for really, from just mucking around in the garden through to starting racing at your local club different kits may be better.

a truggy wuld be better. higher ground clearane and large tyres.

2wd gives better battery life, and more fun if you aren't racing.

if you can find a schumacher club10 they are bulletproof. I use a couple for the kids and they haven't broken anything yet!

try and get a no limit fwd / rev speedo, and 4200 cells and it will fly with any open can motor.

yes
Truck would be good for that, there's plenty out there and some good ready to run setups.
If you can find one that's got bearings and not bushes then it'll wear less and give you marginally longer run times.

I would go down the local RC racing club and ask if anybody has an old buggy they dont want any more.

Should be able to get something that runs for very little money.

Agreed. I was in a RC plane club and lots of folks would sell off reasonable entry level kit that they'd progressed on from for little money. I'd suspect RC car clubs would be the same.

I just bought a Tamiya Sand Viper - also from Antics and am very impressed with it. There are plenty of videos of the various models on youtube.
