Not unique to only those two heli's, others like the Eurocopter EC135 haave this Fenestron tail arrangement as well.
Have a re-watch of Blue Thunder the movie, and see if you can spot where the model was used; a quick tip is you can see the flybar on the model, where the full size had a 3 blade head.
Great model your building!

So, the critical question: What would win in a straight fight, Blue Thunder or Airwolf?
My money`s on Airwolf, Blue Thunder never `growled` as it flew! Did the boffins in the programme ever try to explian how Blue Thunder`s `silent mode` worked? Anti-noise? Did it have anti-wash too? On second thoughts, counter and equalise lift and it would just fall out of the sky!Space Kid said:

However the Eurocopter had it's maiden flight on 15th February 1994. The movie Blue Thunder was released on 13th May 1983.Have a re-watch of Blue Thunder the movie, and see if you can spot where the model was used; a quick tip is you can see the flybar on the model, where the full size had a 3 blade head.

As previously stated by EricMC Blue Thuner was based on a Gazelle....
The remains of which can be found at Univeral Studies in the "bone yard". Its now missing the tail boom, rotors and front gun. The colour is somewhat faded to light grey too. Do an image search on google, there are some sad pictures of how she looks now.
From what I understand the only reason a model was used for certain aerobatic shots was that the movie helicopter had so much extra wieght added it could no perform anywhere near its original flight envelope. Rumours of it being slightly dangerous and very nose heavy are often touted around.

Blue thunder is more believable than Airwolf, thats why i like it i think. If i won the lottery, i would love to have a replica of one to go with a film cars collection.
And for Airwolf fans, check this out. http://projects.airwolf.tv/ssmockup/preview.html
