Whats the average range on RC planes and choppers? And would it be possible to engineer/modify a transmitter to transmit 25 miles, in the same way that walkie talkie radios can be modified. Simonrockmans VR camera setup got me thinking smile

It may be possible to modify a model transmitter to give it greater range but I don't think 25 miles is feasible. The problem is knowing who else might be operating on the same frequency within that radius, and the possible tragic consequences of 'shooting' their aircraft down through interference.

For a normal sized model aircraft, the difficulty of operating at the limits of transmitter range arise from being able to see what the aircraft is actually doing in order to control it effectively.

you don't need to "see it" with VR setup, you are watching a pilots eye view in your fancy goggles.

Seems long range flyers have a fair few teething problems, Im not sure where to start (as decent knowlege of radios etc is required) other than to copy someone elses setup.
