Helicopter engine stopped mid-air
Discussion
Arse...! I was out flying one of my helis yesterday when the motor decided to stop very abruptly. It wasn't one of those idling on the ground and running out of fuel stops, but a very different noise. Not mechanical, just a really quick stop.
Having never in four years of flying had a copter stop on me mid air, and having never done an auto-rotation for real I had a bit of an issue on my hands. Fortunately, sim practice paid off and I auto'd it in for a safe landing. (Nose in too - not bad as I haven't flown for ages...!)
Inspection shows some fuel line had split allowing air bubbles in to the fuel. Heli had leaned out and motor siezed up.
Time for a new motor. It's got one of those Thunder Tiger Pro39H's in which I must say has been bloody brilliant form a reliability and tuning perspective. I can get another one of those or the renowned OS32 SX-H or the new OS37 SZ-H. I have a few 32s already and they are good motors, but no 37's. I have heard the latter are a bit heavy on consuption though compared with the 32.
Any PH'ers with helis care to reccommend...?

Good job on the auto; a lession learned though, change your fuel tubing every year, including the clunk tubing.
Having tried many OS37's/32's/TT39's etc in my time as a model shop manager, the 37 has good power like the TT39, although its a bit smoother, but you are quite correct, its a thirsty beast. Price/Power wise, go for another 39, then you will have some spares (carb, bolts etc.).
