What to build?

I have tried a few different Tamiya models and have tried a couple of lego technic models (which the kids have "adopted" now) - anyone have any thoughts on something a bit more challenging with a longer build time?

A kit car! A locost? Don't buy a chassis make it from scratch! Far more fun than model making!

Or buy a cheap car and restore it? Nut and bolt restoration!

Build a car in the garage or a bike in your house? If you don't like the cold, buy a heater!

Dad rebuilt his Lotus 7 inside and ate dinner off the underbody for a while

Try a 1/8 model or something larger than the normal Tamiya size. Otherwise a kit car is a good idea.

What scale have you been working in?

If you've restricted yourself to 1/24 scale, try going up to 1/20, 1/18 or even 1/12. Naturally, you'll pay for the privelege of working in larger scales, and I've never gone higher than 1/20 personally, but the larger scales offer lots of detailing potential.

Alternatively, scour ebay for Fujimi Enthusiast models. I strongly advise stress management therapy if you attempt one of those, however...

If you want to keep with the model theme then build a R/C helicopter.
