Just read this on their website:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On Tuesday, I touched on our new ‘double-moneyback guarantee’, which Mr. Paul ( thats Christopher Paul Cotton to be precise )reckons is the greatest marketing breakthrough since bakeries decided to offer bread in a pre-cut format.
It’s going to be launched properly in our next diecast catalogue but, in essence, if you order a new replica before it has been released by the manufacturer, and we fail to supply it, we will pay you double the price of the model you ordered.
When he came in on Monday and told me about it, I assumed he had been on the bottle the night before, but he’s dead serious and is so convinced that the manufacturers will supply us with the numbers we want, that he is prepared to put his money where his mouth is.
No two ways about it, if we mess up, it’s going to cost us a lot of money!
The offer will apply to all the main brands, but some of the less reliable manufacturers will be excluded; that’s people like Jada, Carousel, GMP and so on. But it will certainly include Minichamps, Mattel, Kyosho, Solido, IXO, Exoto, Spark and so on.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So what do you think?

Another nail in the coffin for independents while ModelZone, Grand Prix Legends and Amerang try to close the market up in the UK?

Interesting news, that will no doubt include lots of small print to cover Cotton's back.

I think the suppliers and distributors will have the final say on this, they certainly won't want to lose their other customers just to keep GPL happy.

Hey if this is true, have they just shot themselves in the foot??

If all their pissed off customers were to order say the special FXX Schumacher model which retails for £200, and I mean 100's of customers, say maybe a 1000, how could they fulfill all those orders

Even if they managed to secure 500 examples for the UK from a very limited number, they would have to send 500 customers a cheque for £400 each, that's a whopping £200,000 down the drain and 500 pissed off customers very happy.

If you are one of those who happen to get one shipped, simply return it within the 14 money back gurantee they offer, all legal and above board, so no one looses apart from GPL

Good idea sdw2003 but I've got a feeling they'll remove pre-order items once they get above a certain level.

You know what, ya spot on - any Bullshit idea that makes them out to be even more powerful than they actually are!!!

I wonder how many model collectors have worked out the Modelzone/GPL/Amerang relationship yet?

sdw2003? I hardly know you!!

Seriously though, I will drop you a quick line but I have to be a little careful as I crossed swords with certain people a few years ago and wouldn't want to repeat the experience.
