Is there such a thing as a small bench mounted circular saw with a smooth blade that can cut materials for modelling, perhaps with a foldable table.
Thanks in advance.

Don't know of one specifically but you could mount a Dremel multi-toll type device to do the job, and Dremel have a wide range of blades/attachments. Might be an interesting project.
If you want a REAL precision machine, look at this :

Trying to cut small, precise pieces on a normal bench saw is a good way to lose fingers; Dremel used to do a 'table saw', which was a bit of a waste, as it wasn't gutsy enough for the stuff I was trying to do. If I was still building for a living, I'd have one of these. I worked for a supremely good modelmaker in Atlanta some years ago - he took delivery of a new Powermatic 10" saw, then locked everybody out of the shop for four days, while he rebuilt it to his satisfaction. That was real, real good. Amongst other mods, he used a 200-tooth semi-high-speed blade with a fabricated throat plate (we were mainly working in Plexiglas), but it would be a bit of overkill from a hobbyist's point of view.
If you buy one of Jim Byrnes' saws, can I come and borrow it from time to time, LOL.
