i still have this 959 from around 87,88. a bit battered and bruised now!
at the time i also had a hotshot 2, midnight pumpkin, blackfoot, wild willy and willy's wheeler but when youre a lad you sell them on, regret it now as the new batch of cars and the new retro ones arent the same.
a mate had a wild willy back in the 80s as well and bought the new almost built one a year or so ago, looks the same but he said you dont get the fun out of building it.

Thanks for all the kind comments via email and in the guestbook...! Everybody has some little hobby or such that they blow all their cash on and this is mine...!
Alas, relocation to Geneva means some simply have to be sold. I am keeping a core of models but a significant thinning down has already commenced

Roop, your loft must be rammed solid!
I used to have these; hornet, subaru brat, optima mid, pb mustang (1/8 rallycross)
Ever since the petrol powered car arrived I felt the tamiya's rather toy like. I have fond memories although the photo's take up less room than the kits! I quite fancy getting one the the alloy 1/5 models sometime

I used to have a 959 when i was younger. Brilliant cars. Might sniff one out on ebay for a resto. Would it be possible to go brushless with the 959? Seem to remember the motor fitted odly.
thanks

It's my worst vice at the moment apart from collecting big cars in the real world . Curse you eBay and everything you make me buy!!!
Kamtec models for all your Tamiya 959 bodyshell needs.

Ahh, memories...the first car I bought was a Bigwig, which I still have.
Luckily I changed Saturday jobs and started working for Beatties in Blackpool, which was a big chain selling Tamiya kits and buggys. Alas when you're 16-18 years old the staff discount was too much of a temptation. So I bought the sister to the 959, the Toyota Celica.
I found that to be quite unreliable as the uprights would wear, allowing the drive shafts to fly out. :-( SO that got sold on quite quickly.
We'd earn extra cash building the kits for customers. I used to enjoy building the first one, but hated the repetativeness of it. Oh and the arguments with my step father, when I'd converted part of the shed to a modellers spray booth.
I then got away from the buggys and bought a Parma road chassis, which I also still have. It has an old Ford body, in Candy Blue. I'm going for a rummage in the garage at lunch tomorrow...
Isn't eBay a bugger? I know of a US seller with a large stock of NIB kits I fell like blowing some cash on. Especially with such a good exchange rate at the mo.
