Digital slot racing sets are a recent development where you can run up to six cars on a two-lane circuit and use lane changing and pit lane features for more relistic overtaking and pit stops. Broadly the track systems are the same but with different controllers, power bases, and cars and some extra track pieces (crossovers, pit lanes etc)

Ninco are the latest of the slot racing manufacturers to have brought out a digital system. Scalextric, Carrera and SCX all also have different systems. There is also a brilliant system called Slotfire which allows digital racing on wooden tracks but this is probably too big for most living rooms!

One thing to bear in mind is that while broadly all manufacturers analogue (normal) cars produced since the late '50's work on each others tracks, only a manufacturer's digital cars will work on their tracks unless you convert analogue cars to digital by buying a chip or cannibalising another car. So for instance only Scalex digital cars work on Scalex digital track and to use a Carrera analogue car on that track you have to install a Scalex digital chip.

For more info see slotforum digital forums or try contacting a BSCRA slot racing club near you

Have fun, Rob
