A year or so ago, I started to build a Tamiya Ferrari 360 Spyder, I had some trouble with the can a spray paint, it didnt spray properly, and it completley ruined the bodyshell of the car. Since then, it's been relegated to it's box and i'm now thinking of going back to it.

My question is how do I remove this paint, it was Humbrol spray paint, but I no longer have the can, so I cant check what sort.

I've seen this tutorial online www.briansmodelcars.com/tutorials/tutorial.asp?TutorialID=71&CurPage=1 and was wondering if a Uk version of this chemical may work.

I'm going to stop off at Halfords on the way home from work at some point and see if I can get some.

Has anyone else needed to remove paint, and how have you done it without affecting the plastic underneath.

Any help greatly appreciated.

DOT 4 brake fluid works a treat. If you want to remove the "chrome" from those sometimes horrible bits then just immerse in bleach. Perfect. Want to replace duff chrome with super looking chrome ? Search for ALCLAD II. Oooooh, it gets both addictive and expensive.

Go to this site and search for paint removal as a topic. It's a great site for model car builders anyway, the on-line shop is a gem and the forum members are a really helpful bunch. 99.9% of all you need to know is in the search bit.

There is a product called "Model Strip" which is specially designed for this purpose. I've also heard that Mr Muscle Oven Cleaner works a treat (it's essentially the same product). I've used Model Strip but not Mr Muscle.

Take care using any of these products as they do contain some strong chemicals. At the evry least wear latex gloves when applying them.
