Just to let those who might be interested know.

Britain's largest scale model exhibition is on tomorrow and Sunday at the International Exhibition Centre, Telford.

I used to be a regular at this event (when it was held at Donnibgton) so tomorrow will be my first trip to this venue. Thousands of models of all sorts will be on display and lots of traders will be attending.

So what did you think Eric, did you pick up any goodies?

I got a Magna Models Gloster F.9/37 which is entirely your fault as you mentioned this particular aircraft in another thread and I've been intrigued by it ever since. (thanks btw )

Quite a good show I thought, shame that most of the rumours were actually that rather than immanent releases, oh well.

Cheers

Paul

It's the UK IPMS (International Plastic Modeler's Society) premier show so that should answer that for you.

The show is for scale models so, although they are mainly plastic kits, many other media are used (resin, wood, mertal etc), The standard of the models on show are absolutely stunning - especially those entered in the massive competitions.

I did part with a few bob - I bought the brand new Xtrakit Gloster Meteor F8 (first 1/72 injected kit of this aircaft EVER)( plus MPM'snew Meteor FR9 - MPM are the moulding company for both the F8 and the FR9). Also purchaed was a brand new 1/144 scale Vickers Viscount. I also purchaed lots of tools and accessories which are virtually impossible to obtain at local model and hobby shops.

I also managed to meet two of my modelling heroes, Matt Irvine and Brett Green.

Matt Irvine did most of the BBC's model effects in the 1970s - he made most of the models featured in "Blake's 7" and the "Tom Baker" era of Doctor Who. Matt is a fantastic modeller and has just written a book on modelling spacecraft The book mainly deals with real spacecraft rather than fantasy and sci-fi subjects. I bought the book and was able to have Matt sign it.

Brett Green is an Aussie who specialises in Luftwaffe and US WW2 subjects. He has produced some excellent modelling books for Osprey and appears in video "help" guides on Testor's website. Needless to say, I managed to get Brett to sign one of his books for me too.

I'm pretty sure I'll go again next year.

I remember when Matt Irvine was on the Multi-Coloured Swap Shop. He inspired my father to build a "spacecraft" out of a Belling food mixer and a ballcock...
