RC view from the plane

There's a big old thread on this on RCgroups if you want further info, the chap who built it gives plenty of advice for doing your own.

I'm definitely thinking of fitting out one of my heli's, maybe one of the 3D planes as well, though I'd prefer to have a one-eye view, so I can keep track of the plane in the air from the ground without having to remove the goggles. I think this would also be an aid to practicing complex manoeuvers first few times (it's much easier not having to deal with the co-ordination of the model from the ground!!)

That guy has made loads of great vids like that. And hes just made 1 or 2 even better ones with a new/better plane. Although i quite like that original foam plane he uses there, as it is relatively slow, and has stable flight which seems ideal for this kind of thing. If anyone is interested, the plane is a "Multiplex Easystar". Basic kit is only £50 too, plus radio etc. Keep in mind it has some pricey camera/transmitter kit on there too of course.

I'd often wondered about doing this. I'd bet anything, that you're about a million times less likely to prang your plane too!

Its one thing fitting a camera to an RC plane, but to allow the camera to move in relation to your own head movements is simply amazing - stunning footage

Could you use the gyro system to control the plane somehow? my past experience of model planes always resulted catostrophic disaster within a few seconds, with something like this you fly where you want to go & it does it all for you?

In one of the videos the chap says the plane is very hard to control from within the cockpit. Id imagine the video quality is superior to what we are seeing on the net, though.

This guy is doing a very similar thing also. But with more distance. Flies them clean into the next town even!

Btw, this is also using a multiplex plane, although this time its a "Movie star" which I think is the only model plane you can get which is purpose designed for ariel photography/video work.
