Got this for my birthday quite a few years ago, but didn't get very far - it's been sitting on the shelf collecting dust ever since! Have lately thought about getting back into it

I have one in a similar state. Just moved house and now have a large Study, (and retired so have time), so intend to get back into the game. Got a whole host of kits to build - bought some of the earlier Tamiya stuff off e-Bay. Stuff that I couldn't afford/justify when it was current. Friends coming over from Texas in 3 weeks; bringing me a new Aztec airbrush. Number of Dollars is smaller in USA than number of Pounds in UK. Couldn't persuade them to bring a compressor across, though.

Good luck with the Bentley, just do it.

Where did you get that? My brother has a 944 S2 and I'd quite like to make him one of these for his birthday.

Must say that chassis and engine looks very realistic, is that 12th scale grime on it? Rich...

I was to ask that myself... either it's a weird coincidence that a few years of gathering dust have conspired to make it look this 'real'- or the patina is 'brushed on in which case the original poster is way too modest about his modelling skills...

I found it on Ebay, but it's also available from Antics online model shop

To be honest it's a bit of both - real dust from sitting on a shelf for years, and painted to look a bit oily. It's nothing special really - just some grotty old enamel thinners with some black added. Brushed all over as a final coat then dabbed off with a cloth. Thanks for the compliments though!

Ahh, fond memories.....That Bentley is a fab kit to build and it looks like you`ve made a great start - do it justice and post the pics when you`ve done? So impressive when built. The 944t is a Hasegawa original and builds exceptionally well - does the Revell release have the original`s self adhesive carpet material? Had a couple of rubber pipes for the engine as I recall too....

All this stuff making me think about gettng my old ones out and dusting them down and repairing them. I had a nice collection of 1:32 1930's cars plus of course the 1:12 Bentley an 1:16 MGTC and a Morgan 3 Wheeler. Happy days!

Rang antics and the helpfull guy said they had some in thier stores they could recall to the warehouse.

He said, do it online and it will go through the system quicker, and remember to put ' Urgent, birthday present' in the order, cos they process it quicker

That makes mine a bargain, especially as it has arrived today!

So question is how would you finish yours? (That question is to the forum, not just Zad ) As someone that has made mainly military vehicles in the past I've always completed them with a certain amount of weathering. However as far as cars go I think I'm more inclined to go for as clean a finish as I can get, what's your preference?

Cheers

Paul

Funny you should say that - virtually all my previous models had been 1:35 WW2 vehicles. So adding a bit of weathering to the Bentley seemed the natural thing to do

However I'll build the 944 in 'showroom' condition

(don't worry I need to give the tub another coat and the engine isn't glued in - oh and I know it looks like I only build engines and chassis! )

I recommend you apply your weathering skills. That Bentley kit builds big, a clean `as new` build looks strangely sterile and unrealistic. The full sized ones I`ve seen are usually externally clean but have a beautiful patina on the mechanical parts from reguler use - oil stains, wear/bleaching/staining of the fabric & leather spring gaiters.....It`s a shame we can`t recreate the smell of Castrol R in scale... Of course there`s no reason not to build it `clean`, then decide how much `character` to give it afterwards!
