Are there any car kits about in this scale ? ( preferably with a metal detailing kit and decals ?) I really fancy something for the shelf next to my desk. but I must build it myself.

Don't know what yout budget is but for this sort of scale I think (and would love to be proved wrong) you are limited to pocher who were sold in 2000 and have since filed for bankrupcy so the kits are getting harder to find and more costly

www.scaleautoworks.com/kitslist.htm

edited to add - Sorry was assuming you wanted high detailed static model rather than RC also had a look on ebay, where although pricy it seems they can be found.

pocher on ebay

Ford Hot Rod by Revell in my local Modelzone which is 1/8. I also have a Monogram E Type which is 1/8 but I've had it for around 30 years (unbuilt) & it was rare then.

Monogram did an 1/8th `82 Camaro & `82 `collectors edition` Corvette, an `80 Firebird Trans-am ans I think I can recall a `67 Corvette too, all very obsolete but possibly around on Ebay. No metal detail parts I`m aware of, but easy to detail with wire etc. and will look terrific despite being simple to build.

Pocher 1/8 kits are the way to go and if you look at the scaleautoworks site, (mentioned earlier), you'll find all manner of goodies to upgrade them. But..............three things to be aware of, (apart from them no longer being produced), : they are enormously time-consuming to build - a spoked wheel may take 20 hours to build; once you've spent 40 hours or so figuring out the right way, some parts simply won't fit properly, (I know from experience - they are Italian after all), and costs for detaily bits can get silly. But the end result can be beautiful. e-Bay normally have some kits for sale in the 1:20 and bigger category of model car kits. I also know a model shop in Belgium that still has a decent stock but I'm not that generous as to mention where. Sorry. My own experience so far in building an Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 is that the crnk-pins are a bigger diameter than the holes in the big-ends of the con-rods. Not an auspicious start. This Alfa has 6 wheels, (incl 2 x spares), so I could be at it for years.

Have a look for the 1/8 kit of the Bugatti 50T Straight-8 engine or the same scale Volvo truck diesel. You even get to install piston rings etc and you can dismantle once built.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, didn't realise it would all be quite this expensive. I think I may have to go and build a few other things before I tackle anything this complicated. Nice idea while it lasted though.

I've got the Firebird and Camaro, both part built, still in their boxes somewhere, not sure of their current condition though. Let me know if your interested. Otherwise keep an eye out on Ebay, everything comes up eventually.

They must have a value, even part built, I do hope they aren`t for the bin otherwise!
