All, my son was given an old 1:32-ish Tamiya Land Cruiser kit - 4WD, motorised. I think it’s from the ‘90’s. Took about a hour to build, and just runs along with no control.

He fancies re-designing it as an RC version as an engineering exercise, using the original body, wheels, and maybe the motor and some other modified bits of the drivetrain.

Question is, where can he get the micro RC gear for it? Presumably a combined Rx and ESC, battery, and a servo for steering.

Chassis and suspension would be a completely new design, probably 3D printed.

He’s looked for cheap RTR stuff to cannibalise, but hasn’t found anything suitable as yet.

Look for “1:43 drift car” on Amazon. They do a Porsche, a skyline and a mustang for about £30, comes with proportional radio gear, servo, motor etc. for about £30. Would probably work well for what he needs.

If you need slightly more premium, look up Orlandoo stuff. They do decent 1:32 RC trucks
