When I first got back into model making and joined a local club I had quite a lot of success in the bi monthly competition.
However the last couple of years has seen me well and truly in the doldrums.

So I’m looking for a bit of help with ideas.

The next competition is in October and the theme is the 1920s.
I bought some cheap metal figures with a view of doing something on the untouchables theme,

But then upon rewatching the movie realised its actually set in 1930-31…..

Any suggestions (with links to kits or figures) would be amazingly helpful. Just nothing too expensive. I don’t think I will be buying the 1/12 italeri Bugatti for example..

The December competition is songs or music.

surely just go back 2 years and you've got The St Valentine's Day Massacre?

It’s an option, but would involve finding a bunch of figures that may or may not exist.

On an aircraft theme, 'The Great Waldo Pepper' has plenty of scenes that could be depicted, such as the Curtiss Jenny with the rope ladder and car, or flying down a street. (Aurora 1/48 JN-4 Jenny)

Howard Hughes' 'Hell's Angels' was filmed in the last three years of the 1920s, so scenes of the filming would be valid. (Various Fokker triplane, D.VII, S.E.5a & Thomas Morse Scout) There was also a 'Gotha' bomber converted from a Sikorsky airliner.

What about an Iron Harvest or steam punk theme.

Alternative history blending Sci-fi with 20s aesthetics.

Lots of net resources on scratch building mecha.

Armour wise this would be the very end of the Russian civil war, so a Mark V tank or various late WW1 armoured cars would be appropriate.

The Irish War of Independence happened in 1920/21. Some interesting aircraft were used (RAF Bristol Fighters etc) and Rolls Royce armoured cars featured in the brief conflict too.

A Scalemates search might be of assistance from memory lots of 1920s armoured cars in both 1/35 and 1/72 scale so figures shouldnt be a problem lots of 3Dprinted period stuff on there too .

Bugsy Malone was set late twenties. Have your henchmen splatting and being splatted by minors? Kids, not Morris.

Mustang Sally?
The Boss's suicide machines, hands strapped round the engines?
Yoshimi battling a big pink robot?
Uncle's Big Black Dodge wreaking of 'shine down the Copperhead Road?
Enola Gay?
I was hoping someone did the Cizeta Moroder V16t in 24th but alas no...
ACDC Thunder...bolt?
We allowed the most tenuous of connections at our club...sometimes the more convoluted the higher the score...

Mustang sally is one that has crossed my mind on multiple times.
The only problem is car models very rarely win. I have no idea why.

Of late I have been considering not bothering with the club competition at all. Maybe just entering when I have a good idea or pre existing build.
