I'm building a plank-on-frame model boat and would like to fill some of the compartments with a filler hard enough to sand - because to get the hull to the correct shape I might have to sand right though the planks over a small area.

The snag is that the planking is almost finished, so whilst the void to fill is about two cubic inches, the only access is via a small slot about 5mm wide. So I'm looking for something that can be squirted in which will then set. Ideas welcome!

Would it not be best to fill the gap initially with the actual material the boat is made from i.e. wood and then fill the remaining smaller gap with filler.

Will this boat be designed to float or is it a display model only?

If a display model, Milliput might do the trick.

Thanks Eric. In hindsight wood blocks would have been the thing, but it's too late now as the planking is almost complete - and that's when I realised the shape needed adjusting.

It's display only, and it doesn't matter what the surface looks like as it will be painted.

I could perhaps introduce something like Milliput into the gap with a small spatula but it might be too stiff. Is there anything else that goes from perhaps a paste to a solid? Or what about squirting in caulk

In the end I used some lightweight filler and shoehorned it in with a fine spatula (if one can shoehorn with a spatula) until no more would go in. We'll find out if it worked...
