I have a geode that I want to drill through the back of and wire a small LED into it. Don't want to worry about batteries so want a little solar panel on the back of it to charge it in the daytime.

Does anything like this exist as a DIY kit? If I was wiring it myself I guess I need an LED, a wire, and a solar battery but wouldn't know where to start looking or what would work the best.

I do have a soldering iron but my skills with it are agricultural at best. smile

Do you want it to charge the battery during the day and the light to come on automatically at night?
Most of the off the shelf devices that do this are based on a super simple circuit with an nimh battery and a small a solar panel, easiest route is to find the cheapest ready made device and steal the workings.

Ah yes that's pretty much it, I did wonder about ransacking something off-the-shelf but thought they were all larger garden-sized lights. Will have a look and see what I can find, cheers. smile
