Spray adhesive
Discussion
My next boat project beckons - and for starters I need to stick paper templates to plywood temporarily so I can cut parts to shape, then peel the paper off without leaving a residue on the wood.
3M Spray Mount is ideal but an horrendous price; can anyone recommend an equivalent? I tried a product from my local hardware store but it's like a haphazard spray of snot...

There used to be a cheaper unbranded alternative to spray mount but I imagine that's gone the way of all those other handy but smelly graphic products swept aside by the Apple Mac. 3M SprayMount isn't as good as it used to be either. Probably less injurious to health but also less sticky to items. Probably still your best bet though and unless your plans are enormous one can will go a long way. Top tip – spray mount the plans and stick onto your cutting mat before you cut out the templates, using a scalpel on a japanese cutting mat. (sorry if that's teaching granny to suck etc but I've seen people do some odd things of late)
Thanks - though there's no cutting mat; the paper plans will be sprayed then stuck onto plywood, which will be cut on a bandsaw then disk sanded/bobbin sanded to final shape. Then the paper peeled off.
I've pressed the button on this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B092MK2RH8 - the reviews look encouraging, and it only has to work once, and not for very long.
As part of this project I will have to scratch-build a miniature steam engine - ulp!

I have been told this Hobbycraft Repositionable Spray adhesive at £7.50 for 400ml is good.

Well as it happens I'll be going near a Hobbycraft store to get other stuff, so the Amazon order has been cancelled and I'll call in pick it up. Please accept a virtual beer! (only half a pint though as it's £6 a pint and I need a swig myself)Simpo Two said:
