With my children getting a little older so I can actually get some of my evenings back, and threads like this in mind (https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=159&t=1817724), I am resolved to spend more time on some practical hobbies - specifically learning how to machine things. I am slowly building a '7' type car, so have a few pieces that need making, but also fancy a crack at a cycle-kart, but my knowledge with lathes dates from GCSEs (late '90s) and milling is entirely new to me.

Any pointers to good resources which will take me from novice/first steps?

Youtube is endless, and as a beginner, it's hard to spot good advice vs bad...

Goes without saying, will post a build thread if I do get started on a cycle-kart project...

Subscribe to this forum:

https://www.model-engineer.co.uk/forums/

Start a thread in the “Beginner’s Questions” section and describe your project, your equipment and level of experience. You’ll get a ton of advice, and it will soon become clear who’se who, and which advice to take. It can seem like there’s an overwhelming amount of stuff to know, but take their advice, step-by-step.

There’s no way I could have completed my project without advice from that forum on every aspect of Model Engineering.

Thanks very much but I’m afraid I’m not sure which forum you mean, was it this one or did you mean to link to another one?
