Long story, but I managed to return from holiday in France last month with this:

I'm pretty sure it's a late 80's kit and I'm almost certain that I had and built it (probably pretty badly) back around that time when I'd have been about 11 years old. I haven't built a model kit in probably 30 years now and I don't think I was particularly good back then - certainly never had anything like airbrushes etc., just used to glue them together, paint with Humbrol enamel paints and small brushes then apply the decals and hope for the best.

I'd like to make a decent stab at this so I don't mind taking the time to learn how to paint and assemble it so as to get it looking nice. Any good suggestions for websites, Youtubers etc. with decent instructional advice? Regards materials, what sort of glue do I want, do I need airbrushes, any other tools, materials etc.?

The moulds for that kit date from the original Airfix MRCA from 1975, and it’s nowhere near modern standards. Still, if you’re building it out of nostalgia, fair enough. This guy is good at showing what can be done with basic tools:

I’d go for Vallejo Model Colour paints, and Tamiya Extra thin liquid cement though.

You don’t need an airbrush.

Might be worth getting some aftermarket decals as the ones in that box could be 40 years old. Hannants are a great place to get some from. You could do a gulf war 1 version…only a couple of colours needed…

Buy a cheap modern kit or two to practice on if you want this to look as good as possible.

I can still smell the enamel paint I used on that kit…

It’s far too close to SMW to be putting pictures up like that.

Built mine when painting was optional. I remember it was white, and the swing-wing mechanism fascinated me. I think I got as far as badly applying some gloss red, before being consigned to a random box. I’d not discovered masking tape by that time.

That model is in my old units ( TWCU) markings from the early 80's.
Later on we were TWCU and shadow 45sqn so the roundel on the side of the nose moved to the side of the intake and we had the winged camel ( Death Camel from Hell) markings on the side of the nose
