The naming of parts
Discussion
Sherman tank - they used Sherman parts in loads of the original film props. I think there’s a list somewhere online of all models that were used. IIRC Tamiya F1 cars were popular.
I was seriously thinking about getting the large scale MPC Eagle from Space 1999 - it’s got a representation of the Airfix lunar model halves accurately moulded into the sub-structure, which was I guess unsurprising given the quality of the kit, but all the same strange to see.

I’m sure we all know what this is. Surprising place to find a locomotive backhead. What’s the tank hull it’s been mounted on? Sherman? T34? Can we spot any other odds and ends on this most iconic spacecraft?
Anyway, I love that you can still see the locating pins on the Sherman turret ring

My next action this evening (I’m currently cutting some ribs from balsa) is to check my AMT X-wing for comparison.

Now in my 16 year old’s bedroom. Impressive how some models/vehicles always seem to be relevant over the decades. I rebuilt my Airfix AT-AT a few years back, now in pride of place in the office (complete with its Pegasus engines from a Harrier, and maybe an armoured car body stuck to its backside?)
I must have led a sheltered life as I've no idea what the thing in the picture is!
But will agree that it's amazing what a bit of imagination and some weathering can create.
Have a look at Createscifi on YouTube, and see how he creates all his sets, costumes and props from bits and bobs he buys at dollar stores.
