I've been involved in the hobby of RC vehicles for over 40 years and have had quite a variety of different vehicle types and scales. These range from 1:10 to 1:24 and cover 18 brands.

However, I wanted to try something new and also wanted a bit of a challenge, so I ended up buying the latest 1:32 scale RC kit from Orlandoo Hunter. I have seen the earlier models they produced and watched various videos but I've never had the opportunity to see one up close to check the quality and level of engineering. So this purchase was a bit of a risk, especially considering the non-micro cost!

The product I chose is the OH32X02 Trophy Truck, a 4x2 off-road desert racer style truck. It has a full cage type structure (3D printed) and realistic suspension set-up based on a full-size truck. It is supplied without electronics so in addition to the kit I had to buy a RC transmitter, receiver, ESC, steering servo, motor, battery, etc. I also got tempted by some upgrade parts so have a variety of metal parts to replace some of the plastic parts in the kit.

I shall be making a series of videos to cover this project, the first one covering the unboxing and preparation for the kit build is linked below. The micro scale of the components is something I prepared myself for but it is still surprising to see some of the hardware in reality! Future videos will follow the assembly, integration of upgrade parts, customisation and comprehensive functional and performance testing.

I'll be watching with interest as I'm considering an orlandoo kit.

I seriously considered the trophy truck after reading some build blogs and particularly after seeing this video and enjoying the scale look and performance.

But I'm probably going to be going for the 6x6 truck as I fancy one as a winter build, It will be my first rc model that I will try to weather etc and produce as a true scale model..... And because I can't afford a Cross RC versionscratchchin

I think it's about as small as I could go, building a 1/24 transmission nearly did me inspin

I'm always in awe of the detail that guys on this forum can put into 1/72 models... My fingers are to shakey and my fuse too short!

Yes, that video by 'Aerial Pan' caught my attention too and did a far better job at promoting the product than the offical Orlandoo Hunter version! It really showed off the truck's features, especially the suspension, very well. Of course, the real life performance rather than the slow-motion movie edited version may not be quite as impressive but I really wanted to try one. I had previously looked at the Ford F-150 and Toyota Tundra pick-ups but these are more suited to crawling. I hope the trophy truck that has much more performance potential will be more fun to drive. The size of the screws and ball joints is certainly a worry but we'll see how I get on. I think the key is to work slowly and be organised! Probably my main concern is the electronics. Although the kit came with a lighting and sound group, I may opt to simplify the installation as there is so little space and I'm not a pro with soldering.

The 6x6 truck (OH32M02) looks amazingly detailed in the pictures and is probably the most complex micro RC truck available. It sounds like a great project, especially the weathering. I too am a fan of Cross-RC and I have an AT4V and PG4A crawler. I'd love a heavy truck but they need a large investment to get up and running.

I have seen some of the other micro scale trucks such as the home-built conversions of Hot Wheels (1:64) or Herpa (1:87). There is also now a productionised 1:64 scale (from Sniclo) but for me, you start to lose realism when you get too small. The Orlandoo Hunter products at 1:32 and 1:35 at least return to good level of scale realism and although the electronics are small, they are typically in the same format as a larger scale product (e.g. you still have a servo and an ESC rather than just motor and exposed gears or open circuit boards). Also, I do like to drive outside and the smaller scales are really for indoor use only. I intend to use my trophy truck on proper off-road terrain.

You have to love Pistonheads - a few hours ago I didn't even know these things existed - now I "need" on.

Am thinking of the M01 truck and 3D print some parts to make a Dakar truck......

The M01 is based on the US FMTV 4x4 truck and the M02 is the 6x6 version. They have great scale realism for their size but won't be cheap as you'll almost certainly be tempted by various metal upgrade parts during the build...
