A lot of this stuff is old, and all sorts of sizes. Mainly tin plate, but a bunch of old Dinky 1:43. Oldest would be about 1935..the Citroen which was a promo toy. Some are mechanically complex though.

The top shelf has some tether racers, the ladft hand one being 1948. These have model aircraft engines and are designed to run in a circle tethered to a pole.

The Mercedes in the centre are Schuco and the green one is very unusual as it has a fluid drive. All these are battery-powered

The Dinkies and well known of course, and the Austro -Daimler below is a slot car

More Dinkies, some very early here. The 230SL on the top shelf is interesting as it has a complete gearbox in the trunk and you can actually change gear. Battery powered.

The schucos on the bottom range from about 1938 to modern repros. Some do some amazing tricks. All windup

The 770K Mercedes was made by Tippco in 1937 and the Citroen was a promo model from about 1932:

The large scale Schuco trucks are from 1950 ( fire engines) and modern (grey truck).

When the fire engine was made it would have cost a week's wages for a German worked of the time. These had wired controllers that could make them steer, extend ladder etc.

Very heavy tinplate:\\

The Märklins are just huge tinplate. The fire pumper can pump water.

the old Mettoy racer is from the very late forties.

SO a mixed bag of little interests to serious modellers, but I like tings with complex mechanicssmile......

Lovely collection!
I knew about tether racing planes but not cars...
Hmm, I'll have to investigate!

Very nice. My Dad had a collection of his old Dinky toys, carefully wrapped in tissue in the loft. He reminisced fairly often about playing with them as a kid, and how much they meant to him. A couple of years before he died, I bought two display cases and put them all in them so he could see them. They are now treasured possessions in my house.

I recognise the racing car set, the record Auto Union and others, and also the army truck (with familiar flat tyres!) I’d have thought that is pretty old? My Dad’s one is pre-war I think.

Cool - I had the Mercedes too! The icing on the cake was that Playmobil (Playpeople in those days) figures fit perfectly. I played it to death, must check if I still have it as I had the (light Green) box too. Wasn’t there a sort of steering wheel extension cable so one could “drive” it remotely too?

What a fantastic collection and just up my street. Not that I am a collector but I do like the Dinkys you have and the Gaiety Toys ( nice auto union) and tin toys. Plus that 1920 racing diarama is mint!

In1997 I went to a model exhibition, where outside in the car park there was a demonstration of RTP (round-the-pole) tethered racing cars. They were trying to bring it back but, predictably, it never caught on

I have a collection of Corgi and Dinky toys from when my dad was little. They were all carefully wrapped in tissue in their original boxes in the loft too. I found loads all perfectly and safely kept in the loft. My dad sadly died a few years ago, and I do plan to display all his models at some point. Was nice your dad got to see them all displayed. My dad sadly progressively went blind throughout his 20s so never got to see them again. I always wished his sight would miraculously return so he could see how different cars of today look, compared to the 50s/60s/70s.

As with all stuff one wonders what will happen
to it though I do not really care much -I will be 75 this year and have the same issue with my real cars, wine, library etc.
However, was fun over the years collecting this stuff and that’s good enough.

I disagree. Basically all you do is stand and watch it. No 'driving' involved.
