Thanks to an earlier post here I found some railway track of the right gauge for my Occre model train.

The brass rails are lovely but the sleepers are moulded brown plastic and rather crap, so I'd like to replace them with strips of dark wood. The snag is that the chairs (bracket things) are moulded into the sleepers so will go too.

I can find model chairs on the net but the scale/gauge is confusing. The width of the bottom of the rail is 7mm - can anyone tell me what size chairs I need?

Interesting - but the shape doesn't seem right to me.

What type of chair are you looking for, old fashioned cast iron with a block to hold the rail or modern steel with a spring?

Good question. Old-fashioned as the train is from about 1840!

Have a look here. Typically garden rail track isn't finescale, LGB's advertising is based on being able to let the kids trample on the track, but this might help

Failing that I would also speak to Gaugemaster and Garden Railway Specialists ( https://www.grsuk.com/ ); if they don't know, no one will.

Thanks. I had a chat with Cliff and very quickly got out of my depth.

One problem is that the brass rails, which look nice, are not proper scale, so an authentic chair wouldn't fit, even if it was the right overall size.

I have a friend with a 3D printer so will see if he can assist.

This is the section:

That is "modern" flat bottomed rail that is designed to sit on, and be located by, the base of the chair like this

For an old rail it should be more symmetrical and held in the chair with a wedge.

However, you do see old trains on modern track.

Thanks - too late now though as I decided to keep the brass rails ('cos they looked nice against the model), and cut the chairs out of the rather nasty plastic sleeper mouldings. I sprayed the chairs matt black and glued them to some 'vintage' looking sleepers I made from mahogany and stained down a bit. So today the case will go on and the model is finished biggrin
