Pin Vice / Hand Drill Advice
Discussion
I’ve got three (if this is what you mean):
I think the top one is best, because the chuck closes to almost nothing:
Afraid I can’t find the make of it online, but I’d think any generic one that looks like it would do. Look up pin vice or pin chuck. Be careful to check the end though, because some look like that but have inserts as per below:
The one at the bottom has collet inserts you can swap around to give a range of clamp diameters. It’s a faff to swap the collets round, the one in always seems to be slightly wrong for the drill you need. I use it for re-scribing plastic, so the needle stays in it all the time.
The middle one someone gave me, and I’ve never used it. You move the collar up and down the scroll and it turns the chuck. I doubt it would be necessary for plastic or white metal models though. I’d imagine it would be difficult to use on anything not securely held.

I got my best one from these guys - http://www.squirestools.com/files/Mini%20Cat%20Han... - unfortunately they are a bit old school mail catalogue/order form.
I found that the key is a decent swivel at the top (I have some that just don't have free movement enough)
I got the High Quality 4 Way Swivel Head Pin Vice, but as above the drill piece holder is annoying and much better getting one with vice grip things - what I did was then buy this set on Amazon and swap the head so I had the best of both worlds - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07WM26KSF/ref...

I found that Amazon one last night (the black one). It looks good, but IIRC it closes to 0.2mm diameter rather than nothing? To be honest it’s probably the same as mine, and would be ok for 99% of jobs. [ETA having just looked at the smallest drills I have, they are 0.3mm]I found that the key is a decent swivel at the top (I have some that just don't have free movement enough)

I’m wondering what a drill would be used for on Warhammer stuff though? Maybe drilling out gun barrels?

The only problem with the Amazon one is that the spinny but at the top isn’t brilliantly smooth and grinds a bit.
Strange thing is I never use it by putting a finger on the top and turning the barrel. I hold it more like a hose pipe nozzle, so the top end turns in the palm of my hand - doesn’t really need to be smooth. I find when turning with a finger on the top, and turning with finger and thumb, they rapidly slip down the barrel so you’re constantly having to stop and re-position your fingers.Course if you don’t use it like that, then a smooth top is required.
