Christmas RC projects
Discussion
Anybody got any RC projects lined up for over Christmas?
I've had the Tamiya TA02 Opel Calibra DTM sitting in my dining room since July so I'm going to get that built and painted in the box art. I've got a LHD cockpit to put in there too and I've just ordered a set of JIS screwdrivers. I've only ever built Tamiya kits using poorly fitting Phillips ones before as I had no idea that Tamiya use JIS screws until last week so looking forward to that.
I've also got plans to pick up a Tamiya lunchbox just after Christmas to build with my Daughter. I've been told that box art is not happening on that one but I've got a few ideas to keep it personal to her whilst also nodding to the original design.

After accumulating a load of 2nd hand 2wd racing buggies (mostly Schumacher) during lockdown... I'll be doing some stripping and rebuilding, I reckon!
Got to amuse myself with 17 straight days off!
Having said that; I seem to have done a pretty good job of avoiding doing anything so far, the last year or so

Coupe of RC projects I'm currently working on
Hope to have this one finished over the Xmas holiday, its a clone of the Schumacher big 6 which I found on wallapop here in Spain, cant find any information out about the company that made it but when it arrived it seemed to be an exact copy of the Schumacher model, the shocks were terrible though so I modified it a little and fitted some mugen shocks I had from an old MBX5, looking to paint it and get some decals for it then fit a brushless system to it.
Next project is this HPI Baja 5SC, cant decide if I want to keep it petrol or convert it to brushless, will be buying a new shell as current one has seen better days, needs the electronics refreshed as the battery is on its way out and the steering servo is pretty slow, also it needs a kill switch fitted.
And father Xmas turned up early and these have just been delivered today, not sure what I am going to do with them yet but will probably be building one and keeping for myself, the other I am tempted to save for my daughters 18th birthday ( shes currently 4) she loves model cars so she can then decide if she wants to keep it or sell it as I imagine it will be worth a little more by then.

Lovely stuff. Plenty to keep you going there. I almost bought one of the 45th anniversary Porsche's earlier this week when I found a few in stock at RRP but I was honest with myself and If I'd done it it would have only been because it was there. When that and the blockhead wild one were announced a few months ago I decided I wanted the wild one more so preordered it. My deliveries been delayed until January (or even April) but meh.
They are lovely kits though. Very nicely presented.
I didn't intend on buying the Porsche's but watching the videos on youtube from RcKicks & Tomley got me interested.
I found a local model shop that had them on preorder for 249.99 Euros, I reserved two then when they came into stock this week the price had gone up to 299.99, I expected them to contact me saying I had to pay more to confirm my order but they didn't so I got both for just under 500 Euros which is a real steal in my opinion.
They also have a brand new Egress 2013 which I am so tempted by, will need to wait a month or so and hope its still available or the wife will probably kill me.

My son will be opening a Tamiya Lunchbox on Christmas day. Not a complex build obviously but making it with him will be fun and I suspect the painting will be too as I'm sensing he doesn't want the traditional yellow finish.
We're going Purple body and wheels with custom pink decals with my daughters name in place of Vanessa. DarthtaterM16 said:

I've got another project that I'd forgotten about. Will actually be tackling this one at the weekend.
I bought a TT01 a while back with a Skyline R32 HKS shell. I put the HKS decals aside for another time and ordered a set of Calsonic ones from an aftermarket decal place. Painted it up and put the decals on but every time I look at it I realise I'm not happy with the decals. They're lifting in places, don't seem to be the correct scale in others and came pre-cut which I don't like anyway so I pulled them all off a couple of weeks ago.
MCI racing had a sale on last week so I ordered a new set of decals from there which arrived yesterday so will be cutting and sticking those on Saturday night.
In addition to that I also bought the light buckets for the shell a while ago and a load of cheap LED's, wires and heat shrink etc from ebay (literally cost me about a fiver for everything) and made a light kit powered by a 9v battery for it by twisting the wires together. With the shell back on it looked absolutely brilliant! I also painted a RHD touring car cockpit for the shell so there is no light bleed.
So the second task for Saturday night is to get the soldering iron out and make the light kit permanent.

I’ve got a Tamiya M-08 Concept that’ll get built up over Christmas ready to get the new Lotus Europa shell as I don’t like the kit M-06 chassis. Then I’ve also got a Kyosho Optima Turbo which is just gorgeous and I’m really looking forward to building as it just oozes quality.
Awesome. A Kyosho will definitely be added to my collection at some point. I've got the Tamiya Wild one Blockhead edition on order but keep looking at the Turbo Scorpion..DarthtaterM16 said:

Does anyone know where I could get a 996 1/10 scale body? I'm planning on designing and printing a 2wd RC car over Xmas as I've been struck down with COVID. I've found some online:
http://www.game-mania.it/index.php?main_page=produ...
But was wondering if the brains trust knew of any others or makes I could search for?

To round out the disappointment (I think L&L get there bodies from here, maybe): https://www.teamcracing.net/
Worth keeping an eye on Tamiya and ebay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/175060174750?hash=item2...
