Sign of the times unfortunately. I’d recommend an SL5, £300-400 gets you something great that fits on a 8x4 board. Thos prices make Lego look good value!
Ours was part of the Lego railway, until Mrs D 'required' the shed for her home office....
However plans are underway to rebuild in the garage.......that was the deal.....
The decision now is how much Scalextric vrs Lego railway.....we've more track (both Lego and Scalextric) than we know what to do with and a relatively empty double garage

I love scalextric. Made this up for the kids last year. Arc Air set up (wireless but analogue).
Made up on an 8x4 sheet. Some interesting curves and sections. I wanted a sort of GT style course with all run offs and surround. Was about as much as I could fit on an 8x4.
Unfortunately when it went back into the garage for storage all the hot glue went hard and the track had to be dismantled. Need to find a better fixing solution.
8x4 is a big constraint all told. But fits nicely over the island in the kitchen. Few die cast toys and bits out of the kids toy boxes and I think it looks quite fun!
laps generally around 3-5 seconds from memory! Based on the maximiser layout, but with a few more compound type curves such as exit from hairpin, and exit to main straight.

I'm currently in a bit of a quandary with mine; its a scalextric classic (from when i was a kid) and is currently dismantled, but normally sits in my loft space of 21` x 12`. with a 2 lane set up, i can have a lap of around 180`!
I'm in the process of moving house and can't decide how much- if any- i take with me as it hasn't been used in over 10 years???
any suggestions? I've no idea how big my new loft space is; there is a double garage, but I'll be putting my cars in that!

It’s not just having space for track, it’s space for the cars to fly off without damaging anything!
My two kids don’t seem to appreciate trigger modulation.
If you have standard then can you just pair the controller back? I know that half defeats the purpose of learning but might be an idea. My two kids don’t seem to appreciate trigger modulation.
Arc Air (can be found cheaply for about 45 quid eBay etc) has the app on the iPad where you can adjust throttle profiles, Max throttle output etc. Dial it in so you are just on the edge of flying off the end of the main straight and jobs a goodun!
My layout purposely has an R4 big sweeper turn after the main straight so they can’t really build enough speed up unless being monumentally stupid to get the car off the end! Up the other end it’s a tricky section so it’s again tough to really launch one!
Either that or get a couple of the minis/beaters with the harder shells and let them have at it! Inevitable stuff will break so keep the precious ones in the pits for serous racing and let the kids be kids when they want to. The little minis bounce around quite well and are very durable.

I know scales are slightly off but I want to build a scalextric set up using Lego city as the diorama.
Lego city street circuit!
Closer than you think Lego city street circuit!
All Lego powered too, the Landrover is 4x4.
