Hi,

I feel myself drawn to the challenge of a largish scale wooden sailing ship such as this 1:100 scale appx 600mm length:

This 1921 schooner has rakish style and makes an attractive display afterwards, plus is not too complex

I've not built any models for a while but like handicrafts and have patience to do it right. So I was googling for a suitable forum for advice and ongoing builds that I could read about technique etc..

Could I ask for recommendations for a helpful forum?

I would start with britmodeller that has a very active maritime section. It is mostly plastic but some wooden too.

If you want to start with this it is really about getting good quality tools. Recommend a keel clamp so you have a steady base. You can learn a lot via you tube especially regarding planking etc

Thanks for that - tools: that's exactly a key area where I want to plan. For now I'm in KL and will be home in Sussex at Xmas to start picking up tools.

Model Boat Mayhem

It's more about RC boats, but you'll find a lot of useful information on building wooden kits.
