Bought this today for my desk - no markings on it other than made in West Germany, so I assume it’s circa 1950

Looks similar to this: https://www.vectis.co.uk/lot/jnf-germany-tinplate-...

I'd say it was based on one of the earlier open-wheeled versions of the Mercedes W196, although the exhaust is on the wrong side and as far as I know they never ran them in red.

The eBay one in silver says it's a W196 Mercedes. That one's battery operated. Also $449.99!

I think the ones on eBay are later models, as the wheels, exhaust and undertray are slightly different on mine.

Also mine appears to have a clockwork mechanism. Pity it isn’t in better condition, but then I only paid £45
