Is there such a thing as a decent RC boat for that price? It's a present, so whilst we could flex the budget, it won't be by much.

Many thanks.

I've got the catamaran version of this from a few years back. Its got a good turn of speed for its size but can be turned over if you try https://www.modelsport.co.uk/joysway-magic-vee-v5-...

For under £50: FTX Vortex or Volantex RC Racent Vector 30

Double the budget: ProBoat Jet Jam

Stretch the budget another £30 and your into brushless territory

Okay, any reason why these wouldn't be OK?

Looks very much like the same boat/hull as the others with a big front bumper!

We took delivery of a pair of boats, that seem ok but the battery life is pretty poor.

This is the battery pack.

Would anyone happen to know if a longer lasting pack of this sort of size is available? With those specific connectors obviously.

If not, is there a go-to place for spares? I will buy a couple of extras per boat.[url]

Hmm, does it charge via that small plug with the 3 wires coming from it and discharge (run from) the red (jst) plug?

The 500mah stated on the pack should give you a fair run time with a little brushed motor?

Your battery is a lithium ion and the battery below is a Lipo.... Charge it in a biscuit tin or something especially if it gets wet.

In essence what you are looking for is a 2s lipo that will physically fit and that has the required JST/BEC connector

Edit - just looked at the Amazon listing and i would try and squeeze in the gens ace 800mah one from the link above, Although measuring the space and weighing the existing battery may be prudent....... Boats can handle a bit funny with too much weight in certain places...... Just like the real things...

Yes it charges via the white plug and runs from the other.

At full chat the boats last about 15 minutes.

The 800 battery is over 50% of the boat cost and as you say may destabilise a small craft.

Edited to add, what is the biscuit tin for?

The gens ace one is just over a tenner and weighs 49g? the tin is just incase of the battery failing whilst charging and starting a fire (it is a risk with all lithium cells)
It is very rare and unlikely with the batteries you are using and with the charger you have even more unlikely but it can and does happen....

Ah sorry, that one. I will use a biscuit tin. Thank you.
