Bandai 1/72 Perfect Grade Millennium Falcon
Discussion
Having recently had a blast building the Polar Lights Enterprise......
I have now embarked a project on that other famous starship. The Bandai kit has been around for a few years now and has been the subject of some incredible builds & I shall try and do it justice
Huge box!
A lot of plastic, around 640 parts
The smaller delicate parts come separately boxed
Spot the Panther? Rear deck.
The kit comes with a simple lighting kit but I intend to add to it with a few cockpit fibre optics. It is designed to go together without glue and very well engineered. The parts have next to no clean up required and it goes together very well
More to come.

That looks seriously tempting. I was going to ask if there were any old Airfix kit parts replicated on the surfaces, but you already answered that one. I’m looking at getting the MPC Eagle Transporter - perhaps at Telford. That’s got the old Airfix lunar module halves faithfully replicated under the spaceframe.
Got one in my stash, going through the sprues you can play spot the doaner kit.
Bandai’s mould quality is amazingly crisp, built the x-wing, tie and AT-AT so far, the snap fit works, but some smaller pieces hold better with a little bit of glue.
One tip, enamel thinner can make the plastic very brittle, so make sure it’s well sealed before doing any enamel or oil washes.

Thanks for the heads up, I had read that the plastic can be a bit fussy.Bandai’s mould quality is amazingly crisp, built the x-wing, tie and AT-AT so far, the snap fit works, but some smaller pieces hold better with a little bit of glue.

Looks great, the detail is very impressive.
I'm planning 3D printing a 1:34 scale version. Currently half way through a Razor Crest but drastically underestimated the amount of filament it would take (£100+ by the time I'm finished - dreading to think what the cost of filament will be for the Falcon).

That will be huge, you have probably seen this,

Look at the stash of kits used in the construction of the 5 ft filming miniature in 1976 or thereabouts. Apparently Bandai had full access to the surviving model and a few of their kits even featured in the build.

I only noticed recently that if you click on the Thumbsnap image, it tries to describe the image in the window tab. This one says "A group of chefs producing food in a kitchen."Bit of an update, been making good progress, construction is pretty easy, you have to be careful removing the smaller parts from the sprue. I have only had one mishap that was easily rectified!
There are a few PE parts included, such as these engine grilles
I have been working on the cockpit and gunbays
Got some paint on the mandibles, Tamiya primer, followed by a dark grey pre shade and a light coat of XF2 white mixed with XF55 deck tan for the base colour.
