Another bored in lockdown return to modelling thread. I've not built a kit since being a kid and I never bothered much about painting or detailing back then. I picked up these Tyrrell kits along with some 1:12 80s GP bikes and a 1:12 Porsche 935.

I really enjoyed doing these although the 003 had a few alignment issues with the front wheel assembly and radiator and the chrome struts were super fragile resulting in a few snappages (thankfully fixed with superglue). I'm not bothered about going into the finite detail, sanding down mould lines, filling small gaps, etc. and I'm happy to leave the main parts in their bare plastic as they are pretty much the right colour. I have a good selection of Vallejo paints from painting boardgame minis (a task I hate, but I hate bare plastic more) so these were used to paint the detail parts.
Apologies in advance for terrible potatophone camera pics.

Tyrrell 003
Engine, gearbox and suspension. Painted, given a black wash then dry brushed silver highlights.

Bodyshell, cockpit & front suspension. Rivets picked out with a silver dry brush.

Engine assembly fitted.

and everything else. Tyres scrubbed with sandpaper wo add wear. Annoyingly, the decals decided to all curl up and fall off after an hour (maybe due to it being an old kit) so they had to sit in a box until some Micro-Sol decal fix arrived.

Tyrrell P34
This was a much easier build, less fiddly, no broken bits (and fewer pictures)
Engine, gearbox and suspension. Painted, given a black wash then dry brushed silver highlights.

Body, front wheels, cockpit.

Tyres sanded down and lettering painted, decals added.

Looking good.
Of all the assembly on the P34 the exhaust building for me was the worst of all.

Oh gods yes, that was hard work. I'm convinced the instructions were wrong on how they went together, I must have spent half an hour on them. In the end I found it easier to fit them to the engine first to get the right order then fit the 4-1 piece.
