1:64 Scale Models Anyone?

I've recently started collecting 1:64 scale models; for a few reasons-

Some new manufacturers over the last ~ 18 months creating really interesting models

Detail levels are really decent even at 'Matchbox' size

Limited amount of physical space they take up!

Cost - decent models range from £8-20, with only very rare or discontinued ones costing more.

Anyone growing up with Gran Turismo or Best Motoring videos will find their favourites in this scale.





I've started to collect some Le Mans winners, most of these are made by Spark and the detail is great (some are resin rather than diecast). I've pre-ordered the GULF Porsche 917K. I also looked at getting a GT40 - Kyosho made one about a decade ago and the prices are absurd 2nd hand. I'm not paying north of £50 for any 1:64 scale model!



My latest arrival is the TME Evo:


This is made by Tarmac Works and I'm not massively impressed for the premium price paid (£20). Inno64, Kyosho and MiniGT have been better than this and are usually cheaper too!



A small collection should have at least 1 Ferrari. This is the most bestest one, too!

Hot Wheels had the licensing for Ferrari models at the time, so Kyosho got around this by issuing the model with a teeny-tiny screwdriver and the wheels, tyres and axles loose in a bag. See, it's now a kit, not a model!

Any other collectors of miniatures out there?

Been looking for a display case like the one in your first photo to put some of my lads hotwheels on display on his wall- whereabouts did you get that one if you don't mind?

They are interlocking 6 car show cases from Autoworld, I got them from UK seller Modelmatic. I might have those 3 going surplus in the near future, pending wife approval of a bigger display unit

Both by Greenlight, pretty detailed, the bonnet opens on both, and there is an approximation BC be of the engine in there!

I have 20 or so 1:64 scale models but have been thinking about trying some of the MiniGT models as they look quite good. I mainly collect 1:43 and 1:18 with a few 1:24 and one large 1:12.but due to space and rising costs of 1:18, thinking about only collecting smaller 1:43 and 1:64 good quality models in future. Would still get the odd larger scale model if there's something I really want though.

I've only had a brief look but could only find two UK dealers for MiniGT.

Nice, I have the Bullitt Mustang and I'm tempted by the John Wick Boss Mustang, but the quality on mine isn't great - the headlights aren't painted particularly well. I'm going to need the Charger to go alongside it I think!

As for UK dealers of Mini GT, the aforementioned Modelmatic provides a very good service. If you're comfortable ordering from overseas, Toms.nl is another good website (ridiculous amount of models in stock in all scales)

Problem with Mini GT is they keep announcing really awesome models before they've settled the licensing, so they get pulled out of production. They've got mock-ups for a MK1 MX-5 and a Pagan Zonda F, both of which are on my wishlist but have no release date

This Norev 1:64 Peugeot 205 Griffe is now on my radar too. Not quite the level of detail from other manufacturers but then they're very cheap comparatively too...

I have them both in 1:43 also by Greenlight, though the scale might not be 100% accurate, the Charger is huge:

The proportions of the XK are a little off, but for the money, they aren’t bad.

Nice selection - I keep an eye out for interesting hotwheels cars at the supermarket and old matchbox/corgi etc in second hand shops. I've bought a few slightly larger ones as well, so getting a reasonable collection of around 60 now, including planes and thunderbird models etc.

Migrated to a new display cabinet today. Now I have spare spaces to fill up!

The Charger is a much bigger car: Charger is about 5.3m long whereas a Mustang is about 4.7m.

I've got both in 1:18 scale and the Charger is huge compared to the Mustang.

They're all 1:64, mostly Kyosho. The cabinet is made by JackCubeDesign on Amazon and was originally wrapped in carbon-effect vinyl, but I had to paint the frame white before I was 'allowed' to hang it on the wall

I learned that Kyosho also made F1 cars and so I've had to add a few of those to my collection too...

I saw these on here and ordered them; they have arrived today. I did chuckle when I saw you can buy a set of 3 cars from Bullitt; these two and a green VW.

I've ordered a few MiniGT models which will hopefully be delivered by next week.There's a number of others I'd probably get but haven't been released yet. It will be interesting to see how good these models will be at such a small scale. Will have a look at JackCubeDesign, thanks.

Received the first three MiniGT 1:64 models yesterday and quite impressed with the level of detail considering the small scale.

I like the Lambo's, less taken with the bodykitted stuff personally but they're clearly very popular on the Facebook pages etc.

I have had an influx of deliveries from Japan; first up some stuff from Mine's - I already had the R32 GT-R from Inno64, but spotted the R34 (of Gran Turismo legend) on Yahoo Japan and had to have it. Final bid was just under £20 for this one which came with plinth but no box - I'm not precious about boxes as I buy models I like for display, rather than as investments.

The detail is far better on the Inno64 model but that's a relatively new car as far I can tell, whereas the R34 is made by Aoshima and I can't find much online about it.



Next is something completely different; a couple of 4x4s. I got the Jimny for Christmas and it had to be neon yellow. It's made by BM Creations and came bundled with some teeny-tiny offroad accessories which I've left in the box ('cos my fat fingers will only break stuff like that)

Then the New Defender which is made by Almost Real (better known for their 1:18 models). It's annoying because they're sold in 'blind boxes' so you don't get to choose colour or between 90 or 110. Typically I wanted a 110 and received a 90. This is a metallic black colour without contrasting roof, listed as a 'secret colour'. I'm pretty disappointed overall, since so much detail is lost against the black. It comes with option wheels and accessories too, including a roofrack which doesn't bladdy fit.
