Hi All,

I've dug out my old Kyosho Rocky which needs some love. I sold the speed controller a long time ago when they were expensive.

I'm certain things have moved on hugely. I was wondering if someone could advise what I'd need to replace it please? 7.2v battery and 540 sized motor.

Thanks if anyone could point me to a suitable product.

I'm just aiming to get it working with my son so low spec but functional is what I'm looking for.

I'd suggest:

cheap, pretty reliable and will run pretty much any brushed motor.

If you want to go brushless thats a whole other story (and more expensive).

Many thanks Crafty, I'll take a look. I'm happy with brushed for now. Until I catch the bug again!

If you want simple dont mess with Lipo.
Get yourself some cheap NiMh 3000 batteries. They last way long than they used to with modern ESCs.
Otherwise you'll start spending so much money you will be better off buying a new car.
Old cars are old cars. Nostalgia costs for nostalgia's sake, Tamiya have been trading on it for decades, but there are better quality and value for money makes out there now. The world has moved on.

Thanks for that. I'm slowly catching up with the changes.

Would agree with the comments around Lipo, I've got some nimh batteries and they last over half an hour, plenty enough time for the kids to get bored and want to do something else, shove them in the drawer and just charge next time. Lipo need some care and attention.
