Hi folks,

Firstly, my apologies as I am not James May and am not very good at fixing things. biggrin I appreciate this is not really very broken.

Anyway, my son has a Traxxas Skully R/C monster truck. He did a jump that had an awkward landing and now this keeps happening after the mildest of tumbles. I’ve managed to pop it back into place each time, but it’s REALLY fiddly. I guess it’s just a case of the black plastic bit being a bit worn from where it’s been clicked in and out a few times, but unsure what the part is called to try and find a replacement?!

To get it back in I’m just removing the wheel and shock absorber each time and then fiddling with it using butter knives to prise it into place. It’s really difficult! Is there an easier way? hehe

Thanks!

Yeah, the pin and the plastic bit both rotate so you can line them up. Both sides of the black bit have the channels to aid sliding the pins in. One pin is a touch longer than the other; works best putting the long one in first.

Hi David, I would buy a new part and forget about it. Traxxas has a website where you can input your r/c model and look for the part you need to replace. I think the correct category you should check out is "driveline components". The following link is an example as I can not find your exact model:

https://m.traxxas.com/products/search?f%5B0%5D=fie...

Hope it will help you. Bye

You at least need a new half-shaft and pin and possibly a new U-joint. The old pin is damaged and needs to be driven out of the metal universal joint (U-joint). I think you are supposed to position the half-shaft over the U-joint and then drive in the new pin, not try to force the half-shaft over the pin.

UK supplier would be for example https://www.modelsport.co.uk/ or https://alshobbies.co.uk/

I don't know about Modelsport, but Al's Hobbies have a service department to do repairs for you. Given that you have been using kitchen implements to try and fix this yourself, perhaps that would be a good idea! Of course, this is all complicated by Covid lockdown....
