As title suggests, getting back into r/c flying. I'm more interested in the flying and tech rather than the outright modelling side. My favourite model from back then was a Zagi - a tape covered EPP flying wing with a pusher prop which crashed well (gives you an idea as to my standard of flying).

My interest has been rekindled by having an 8yr old son, and also the advent of autonomous flight, which seems fun/interesting (e.g. this bloke: https://www.youtube.com/user/Painless360 )

With Tier 4 raging, it appears human contact seems out of the question - so a couple of questions:

1) Those little plugs on the end of servo wires - what are they called? Where do you get them and are there tools needed to attache them?
2) which forums are the best for someone like me? I looked at RC Groups - the choice of forums there seems bewildering....

I went into RC flying when my son was 8 as well. He picked it up really quickly and was soon way over my standard, and within a couple of years he was flying RC Helicopters ( Trex 600 and Raptor 50 ) and making them do things that they really shouldn't have been capable of! . A good site is https://www.modelflying.co.uk/forums. His interest waned when he discovered girls, so we sold everything. I still pop down to the club field occasionally ,but just to watch

Youtube and facebook are now the go to places.
Check out Painless360 and Currykitten on Youtube.
They deal with quads and wings and all the technical side.
If you get caught by the dark side and love what quads can do, try Joshua Bardwell. He is THE go to reference for them.
The hobby really is a different ball game nowadays. It is soo advanced and relatively cheap compared to before. Plus you have all this definitive reference on youtube even down to specific products and how to set them up.

snap links/ quicklinks.

built loads of Zagis, always use metal links though with a bot of fuel tube slipped over to stop the link cming apart.
