Hey all,
not sure what to search for on e-bay etc, but I'm after a built F-14 model. One that may come in a box and just has to be put on a stand, in 1:48 scale. I already have an F-35b, which I was presented with when I left an F-35 team to work abroad for a few years and wondered if there's something similar for the F-14 (thanks robmcdonald, your thread made me decide to try and source one).
I haven't built a model for absolutely years and don't have any mode building kit anymore and am certain I wouldn't do it justice.

The F-35 I have isn't hugely detailed and not up to the standards of robmcdonald, Eric, drgn or any of the more talented builders on here, but is fine for the interesting display piece it is.

So, any advice, or even a hint as to the right terminology to use during my search? When I search for "completed" or similar, I just get 2nd hand stuff that is 100% complete, as in it has all it's bits.

Any thoughts/help appreciated.
Cheers
Ash

Excellent, thank you.

Just had a look, damn that's expensive, though they do look a hell of lot nicer than my F-35, though the F-35 is 1:48 and the expensive F-14's are 1:72.

Revell do a Top Gun kit for £26.99.

It wouldn't take much effort to make that look okay. ( I appreciate it isn't what you have asked for, but it is an option)

Thanks Rob, yep, seen various kits and if I were going to go down that route, I'd probably go balls out and buy the Tamiya 1:48 kit with the VF-84 Jolly Rogers livery. Getting an extension built next year, which will give me a wider and longer garage, ie, an actual usable garage that enables me to get in and out of the car with folding myself in to all sorts of odd angles. So maybe, I'll get back into modelling then as I could turn a corner of the garage into a decent bench area.

robemcdonald is building a 1/72 F-14 at the moment. There's a build thread here.

Hi Eric, yeah, that's what prompted me to look into getting a ready made one to go with my F-35, as the F-14's my favourite looking aircraft.

OP, make Rob an offer for it; he’s bound to run out of space eventually!

This is true. Readers of that thread will see that Mrs McDonald has got me the Tamiya 1/48 kit for Christmas. That one will be a keeper though.

I expect it dates back to the 70s.

Tamiya does a 1/48 Tomcat whichI expect is pretty good. Best to do some research regarding reviews etc.

If she buys you presents like that, she's definitely a keeper! biggrin

The Revell kit is what it is, most frustrating is the lack of tanks (the rebox of the Monogram kit). Like anything it can be made to look ok, this was my (average) effort last year with some home made decals, the one in the background is the same kit.

Three generations of Naval aircraft.
all academy 1/72

Note to Ash. I am short of space, so if you would consider swapping to 1/72 I would part with any of them.

I would only ask that you pay postage and make a donation to a charity.

Same goes for any of my builds. I would politely decline if it’s one I want to keep.

They look fantastic, and a very kind offer thanks. However, I really want to stick with 1:48 to go with my corporate type F-35.
Thanks again though. beer
