Scalextric Issues
Discussion
Bought my daughter her first Scalextric set for her birthday yesterday.
Its the F1 Mercedes and Mclaren 'APP Race Control System'.
Must say that she loves it when it is working, but i just seem to have constant issues and problems with the cars which has been pretty frustrating.
The metal contacts that fit under the brushes just constantly fall out, which obviously stops the car running. To me it seems a very bad design. There is a lot of 'play' in the fitting that the contact plates are attached to and they don't seem very secure, so it's not surprising that they fall out.
Also, a couple of times after falling out the plates have got caught in the mechanism and the connectors have broken off the end of the wire, so i have had to solder the plates back on which isn't as neat as when they were crimped and i think are likely to fail again
Has anyone any idea if I may be doing something wrong? Is there an aftermarket improvement that you can purchase that can stop it happening?
At the moment, i have resorted to fixing tiny pieces of double sided tape under the plates which seems to fill any gap and stop the 'play' in the fitting, but i am fully expecting them to fail again later today.
I attach a photo below of the plates that i am referring to for reference.

The braid plate should keep the contacts in place.
Worth checking you are installing the braid plate correctly:

As a matter of interest, what car is that?
In the picture above is the guide blade (the bit with the contacts on) installed ready for the brush plate to be attached?
Doesn't look right to me.
